Built a cabin.

Built a barn.

Built a life.

Welcome to Life in the Foothills.

Hey there! We’re Willie and Kat — a couple of opposites who somehow stumbled into a relationship and then spent the better part of forever chasing a dream… only to get tackled by reality. Plot twist: Never expected to be here. Never expected to love it.

Welcome to life on Two Rocker Ridge, our little patch of North Carolina heaven (complete with wild critters, rogue tools, and the occasional existential crisis). We’re on a mission to simplify, downsize, and figure out what the heck it means to enjoy our “golden years” — preferably with snacks.

On the blog, you’ll find stories about DIY adventures (and misadventures), animal encounters, parenting grown-ish children, untangling family roots, navigating ADHD, and reflecting on past traumas with just enough wisdom to keep things interesting. Basically, if it’s part of our lives, it’s fair game — even the embarrassing stuff.

Kat has a background in social services and education, which explains some of the deeper posts, as well as the tendency to present quirky vocab and grammar lessons. Willie’s got an engineering brain, a construction worker’s grit, a photographer’s eye, and a music lover’s heart. He’s also got a talent for unintentionally starting projects we weren’t planning on. Kat writes. Willie provides the comic relief (and usually the mess).

Around here, there’s plenty of laughter, a few tears, and at least one ongoing project involving duct tape. We’re glad you found us. Pull up a rocker — the good one, not the squeaky one — and stay awhile.
